NAOROJI GODREJ CENTRE FOR PLANT RESEARCH (NGCPR)

The Naoroji Godrej Centre for Plant Research is established in the year 1992 in the fond memory of Late Shri Naoroji Godrej. Registered as a Section 25 (now referred to as Section 8) Company, the Centre's objectives is to carry out purposeful research with a focus to conserve the native, endemic and indigenous plant diversity. The Centre is also recognized by The Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR) of the Government of India, to conduct need-based research in Biodiversity & Plant conservation, with particular emphasis on nurturing and propagating unique plant life of the Western Ghats and Medicinal plants that are of national interest.

VISION


To be recognized as one of the top institutions in biodiversity research and conservation of indigenous and native plants of the Western Ghats and other parts of India for the benefit of Society and community at large.

MISSION


To carry out research in diversity, conservation and propagation by disseminating scientific knowledge, capacity building and outreach to Society on threatened, endemic, wild and cultivable plants for sustainable use.

OUR OBJECTIVES

  • Mass propagation and cultivation of threatened, endemic, wild edible, medicinal, and aromatic plants.
  • Conservation of important plant habitats in the biodiversity hotspots of India
  • In-situ and ex-situ conservation through arboretum, orchidarium, bambusetum, etc.
  • To provide services for plant diversity studies and conservation action.
  • To promote scientific research through collaboration with likeminded organizations.
  • To identify and propagate resilient plant varieties to address challenges posed by climate change.
  • Training and capacity building in plant diversity and conservation.
  • To conduct outreach and awareness programs on plant diversity and conservation for society at large.
