Perennial herbs with bulbous or tuberous rootstock. Leaves radical, linear, parallel veined, plicate or elongate. Flowers umbellate on an erect scape sub tended by one or more spathaceous bracts. Flowering with the first monsoon rain.  Perianth regular, 6 lobed, sometimes with a corona. Stamens 6, adnate or the perianth. Anthers oblong, style long, slender.
