Herbs, shrub or trees; Leaves alternate, pinnate or simple. Inflorescence racemose,  Flower bisexual, zygomorphic, perianth biseriate, calyx gamosepalous and 5 lobed, the  Calyx 5 lobed, divided. Petals 5, aestivation imbricate-ascending, the posterior petal innermost, concave, clawed. Stamens 10, filaments free; style long, curved. Fruit a flat or cylindrical pod, many seeded.
